Hair Makeup non-toxic beauty

Reinventing my own beauty

Eight-years ago, I cut my hair. I gradually went from shoulder length chemically straightened hair, back to an afro. My hair style was met with much disapproval, both from men and women. The experience taught me that I do not need validation from anyone but myself. I can relax my hair. I can wear weaves. I can wear wigs. I should not be compelled to hide my unique beauty to make others more comfortable or made to fit into a mold. Since then, the decision to reinvent my own beauty (and/or accept it) has had a ripple effect on every single aspect of my life.

Out with the old, in with the new!

New Hair

December 2019

In 2017, as I embarked into a new career as a high school teacher, I also entered in a new hair journey. After having twisted, detangled, braided, crocheted, pressed my hair for years, I took a leap of faith. On September 20th, 2017, my sisterlocks were installed by a certified consultant. They were quite an investment, but are worth every penny!

New Makeup

I’ve always been a girly girl. I love fashion, makeup and all the froufrou stuff. However, when it comes to makeup I keep it simple and green. I am more concerned about keeping my skin healthy than covering all of it’s imperfections.

New Lifestyle

Okay, so this is where I need to show a little more consistency still. My mom is THE Queen of juicing and natural cleans. Hence, her skin in flawless. In contrast, for most of my life I could not eat a leaf of dandelion to save my life! Today, I recognize the benefits of living a well-balanced lifestyle. Now you will find me sprouting and juicing regularly but you will also find me meditating in the sauna.

Thank you so much for stopping and for taking the time to comment. It means a lot. There is value in transitioning into clean beauty but just go at your own pace, try a few different brands (there are so many) and you will both see and feel the difference.

  2. Hi Nathalie, I love fashion and clean beauty too! I have also just started meditating on a more regular basis and have started to notice how much calmer I am when I do. xo Nipa

Hi Nipa, I go on long walks in the forest almost daily, that is how I meditate. I found out that there are expressions for it too: “forest bathing” or ” green walking” … All these healthy habits (clean beauty, meditation, clean eating…) help the body and soul remain in happy!
